Importance of Being Zero Waste

The concept of zero waste has several advantages to offer to all the sectors globally. Considering its direct impact on climate, bolstered by reports from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 42 percent of the total green-house emissions comprise of the toxic gases that are released on the manufacturing of goods, the recycling, reusing, and reducing of which will magnificently reduce the contribution, thereby bringing down the pollution index to a manageable value.

The amount of gases released during production and packaging is way higher than the alleged amount, and the only step which can be noted as a remedy to the issue is its replacement. This can also help in addressing the problem of global warming, which is not just a threat to humanity but also flora and fauna. The mean average temperature of the earth is increasing at an accelerating rate every year, which is certainly not a good sign for its dwelling biosphere. Such an initiative can prevent deforestation and land use: changes that account for 25 percent of the total GHG emissions. Recovering 90 percent of the already concurrent dumped waste by 2030 is reported to restore the environment and reduce the toxic impact of its burying by a colossal amount.

Contrary to the meaning derived from its very name, zero waste does not refer to sabotaging waste production but reducing it significantly by adopting appropriate means of advocating recycling, reducing, and reusing waste more than its production. This is bound to decrease energy requirements complementing growth in the economy as an undertaking as such is destined to increase the provision of jobs, securing the lives of those who are currently unemployed to a significant extent.

Such adoption should be a priority concern by public sectors, especially in the times of COVID. Going by the recent statistics, about 31 billion dollars of food is wasted every year, conservation of which can be considered a community initiative to meet the hunger demands of the impoverished. It is an approach that uplifts community strength to astounding heights by supporting marginalized communities and safeguarding their health.

This enhances community participation by making sure that everyone possesses the required toolset for the afore discussed practice and promotes the redistribution of useful resources to those in need like furniture for refugees, business clothing for employees. This practice might result in stronger connections within various sects, fostering brotherhood as the differences would converge to work together for a global cause.
